As a teenager, I suppose I didn’t dwell much on what others’ beliefs were. As an adult, it has become very easy to develop a vigorous disdain for others based on their hateful beliefs.
It usually starts with anger but ends in sadness when I see what some of my family, friends and acquaintances post or peddle aggressively on social media - usually about religion or politics. I try very hard to separate their online vitriol from the person I have a relationship (mostly without having discussed those topics) with, but it is becoming increasingly harder.
I suspect it is because my views on these matters have hardened over the years too, and I find it challenging to engage with those that share beliefs completely contrary to mine.
