SAVE NO DEARNESS

My friend's sister recently misplaced her handbag, and within hours of the lapse, she discovered to her horror that her bank savings had been cleaned out! The handbag had contained the girl's cell phone and ATM card amongst other things. The thief had used the ATM card to swipe (pun unintended) her money. Sometime earlier, the girl's husband had received an sms: "Forgot ATM PIN number. Please SMS reply". Poor unsuspecting husband really thought it was his wife!

Wondering how the thief knew the number was her husband's? Simple. The number was listed in the phone book (of the mobile phone) under

Hubby Darling
9483228474 (number changed to protect identity)

Feel sorry for the girl (monetary loss was huge), but you gotta give it to the ingenuity of the thief!

Well you can call it ingenuity of the thief or the carelessness of the husband. He should have called...especially if it was related to something like a bank pin number. By the way, dont they have limits on the amount of money you can withdraw in a day?

Definitely carelessness of the husband, but the thief also had the knack of finding the number, and arriving at the thought of messaging! :-)

Yea, each bank has its own limit, but I guess in this case, the whole amount was cleaned out. Probably the total was less than the maximum withdrawal amount...

Everything moved like clockwork for the thief, didn't it?

As the elders in the family would say "Edho tholayanum-nttu ezhudhi irukku" :-)

the lady was also careless. she knew she had her atm card and cellphone in her bag. she cud have called the atm service and reported her card "stolen". then the thief wudnt have been able to withdraw any money.she shud have also informed her husband immediately..sending sms wud have been a routine between them, why shud he suspect one particular sms?

Thx for your replies folks..

@Maha: I guess by the time she realised her bag was not there, the theft had happened...

I feel sending sensitive stuff like password, PIN etc is dangerous thro sms..
