LOOSE GIRL ROWDY BOY

Major Irritant:
Noticing a disturbing trend in thamizh movies of late - justifying anti-social, delinquent behaviour by young people as being natural for that age. Dhanush, especially, must win the lifetime achievement award for portraying the most such roles. For example, in his Yaaradi Nee Mohini, there is a line at the beginning of the film that translates to, "... I was just like every other regular teenager... stealing from my dad's wallet, drinking with friends..." etc. I cannot help but fear life will imitate art here.

Minor Irritants:
I find it extremely difficult to stomach instances of a beautiful girl falling in love with a rowdy/porukki/uncouth/unemployed guy who speaks pages of dialogue to justify his stealing parents' money, smoking, drinking, eveteasing, disrespecting elders - and actually winning the girl's heart.

And after watching Santhosh Subramaniam (Bommarillu in Telugu), I realise I cannot stand instances of guys finding hyper, demented, babytalk-spouting, incessantly chattering girls - CUTE! Genelia's character in that movie makes Sridevi's character in Moonram Pirai (Sadma in Hindi) appear mentally balanced.

How dare you ?

Vinesh said...

@geneliafan: not a question of dare. i don't like the so-called-cutesyness she portrays. you are entitled to your opinion.

obviously, many people loved her performances, which is why her films are superhits...good for her and fans like you..

by the way, the only film i liked her in was Sachein.

I really wish life didn't imitate art at all.
Its scary , these violent movies...encouraging and sometime teaching new stuff to innocent film goers

hahahaha...Man, am laughing my ass off -- "Genelia's character in that movie makes Sridevi's character in Moonram Pirai (Sadma in Hindi) appear mentally balanced" ...haha!! LOL!!

There's actually a predecessor to Ganelia -- Shriya in ATM -- If you've watched ATM, you'll know what I mean :)

Oh wait, I think you're right..it was Ganelia who started the trend, way back in "Sachien"!!

G U R U said...

Okay, only after hitting the submit button, did I notice your reply to "ganeliafan", that you liked her performance in "Sachien" ;-)

Btw, I signed on to say, "Hope I don't get bashed up by some "Shriyafan" for my comment :)"

So do you find Asin cute?? She is what men call "bubbly"...

@Vinesh,

LoL.

I think we can put it this way
Ponnunglaku porrikya dan pidikum..
pasangaluku loose madiri ponnungala dan pidikum

:)

Regarding Hasini, i think in orkut there is community called hasini which has 59K fans for her char in bommirilu..
i dont mean to say more fans means she acted well..some parts she was good but the ones with horns et all
satyama edhu varaikam anda madiri ponna nan pakkala..

true...these days very few movies come out with good concepts.
i rate tamil movies in the top list for showcasing vulgar scenes and such cheap romances.I find many songs also meaningless.Especially the ones like "appadi podu" (gilli), "naaka mukka" (kadhalil vizhindein) and its these songs that get famous.

hey,i like ur blog..am blog rolling you :)

@prats: yes, and i actually got to hear people i know talk like that... that it's "normal" to misbehave because it's that "age"

@guru: oh, i thought shreya was okay in ATM, not that i'm her fan or anything! good luck to save you from shreyafan - haha

Vinesh said...

@tia: do they? :-) i have no particular favourites anymore.. some girls are goodlooking, but often the character they portray on screen is too annoying to enjoy their good looks..

@nirmal: thanks for dropping by, nirmal. yes, im aware haasini has a massive fan following, which is also why she played the same role in the thamizh version and is slated to play the same in the hindi Bommarillu as well. it's just that i fail to understand it! also, i have a problem with genelia playing the same type role in most of her films, if not all!

Vinesh said...

@veens: a movie called 'Yesterday'?

@v.archana: film producers and directors are always using words like "catchy" and "mass appeal". i guess that's what they believe brings in the money. not the sophisticated guys downloading movies from torrent sites :-)

thank you for blogrolling me archana! :-)

what is new about what you have written Vinesh.. for time immemorial tamil movies (barring a few exceptions) have shown women to be brainless bimbettes and demented... it is scary that men seem to like such women whey they are their girl friends and if by any chance they marry this personality .. they expect women to change over night and become ll grown up with a head over her shoulders ....

Aravind said...

I do like innocent gal character in movies... but in SS, it was konam too much!! :P

Jeevan said...

haha... but i love the name of genelia's in the SS 'Hacini'! the thought is nice, the film life never goes smooth in real life.

Vinesh said...

@aravind: this was tooooooo innocent i guess :-)

@jeevan: yes, nice name that is!

Keshi said...

If a beautiful girl falls in love with a rowdy boy, she must be dumb. So why r u worried abt it? lol!

I agree with you abt genelia's character in Santosh Subramanian. I actually thout she was playing a mad girl. It was my friend who corrected me told me that she was supposed to be playing a "Bubby Cute' girl.... i was genuinely baffled..

Anonymous said...

LOL that was very nice post.
but genelia like girls are there. Believe me!!
BTW welcome back to regular blogging :P

Ravi said...

Vinesh, how are you? Been a long while since you posted!

Thank God for your comment! I thought I was the only odd, abnormal person when, amongst my friends and colleagues, I was the only one to dislike that heroine's character in "Santosh S...". Very well said Vinesh. The previous time I felt the heroine was a 'loosu' was when seeing the potrayal of the heroine in Mudhalvan by Manisha Koirala (infact she was the only misfit in that movie)!

Vinesh said...

@keshi: lol... she must be.. the grapes are always sour :-P

@maha: im beginning to hate that word that many girls seem to want to emulate these days - "bubbly"!

Vinesh said...

@tekybala: thanks tekybala.. yes there are, i guess. and the success of Haasini-types only spawns more of such girls..

@ravi: so nice to see you here again, ravi. yes, i'd been busy with things that i couldn't blog!

i agree that manisha was terrible in mudhalvan. she looked like the mother of the character she played in the movie :-(

Karthik Srinivasan said...

"Veelaithe Naalugu Matalau,Kudirithe Cup Coffee" was the real Haasini.. She is kiddish but acts matured when the situation is serious...

The only reason why the character was so much hit among guys is that it is hardly possible to find such innocent and kind hearted girls today, and would be the same case in future too :P

Hasini of SS was made to look like a loose thanks to the director. :D

Vinesh said...

@karthik srinivasan: i'm glad to hear this objective comment from a die-hard genelia fan.. :-)

Tys on Ice said...

its a dangerous trend which seem to be now predominant in tamil movies, where things like eve teasing , rowdiness and general antisocial behaviour is glorified...thing is impressionable youth thinks that this is an in thing and cool...

lets not even go there with those girls whose mental age is equal to a still born donkey's...

but then i think there are enough and more sensible guys like you there who sees thru this nonsense ...so the world is safe :)

Vinesh said...

@tys on ice: totally! sometimes you lose track of whether art imitates life or life imitates art..

gP said...

i feel with u bro. thats why i took the saner route. not to watch movies from kiddos anymore, however hyped they are.

talaivairs are enough for me, until they stop making movies. world cinema has matured enough for us to move slightly beyond the tamil movie antics these days. :)

Vinesh said...

@ghost particle: "world cinema has matured enough for us....." hahahaha..

you are too funny, buddy! :D

I think the minor irritant of Genelia should be the most major irritant..it would have been justified if she would have met with some head injury.

Vinesh said...

@sri: oh gosh! haha

Destination Infinity said...

I didn't see SS, but I am reminded of Ileana's character in 'Jalsa'. Actually, I had a policy of not watching Telugu romantic movies. But the guys hyped it so much, that I went to watch this movie in theater. After some two and a half hours, my earlier conviction about Telugu romantic movies prevailed. I think acting 'innocent' is a perfect disguise for beautiful girls. Just imaging what rating the movies would get if they start acting 'naturally'!!

Destination Infinity

Vinesh said...

@destination infinity: "Just imaging what rating the movies would get if they start acting 'naturally'!!" haha.. have u watched most of these actresses in their interviews. can't speak the language of the movie they act in.. and the "intelligent" remarks they make in English

Suresh Kumar said...

My mind s thinking of movies where heroines acted normally and heroes didn't use too much of fists. Hmm. Very few...

Anyway it is truly said by some great soul, 'Movies are made by asses for the masses'

Vinesh said...

@suresh kumar: Asses for the masses - haha

Moonlight said...

nice one... even I didnt like Genelia's "over-bubbly" character much in the movie...

I think guys shud look for more mature girls who understand life!

And all this heroine-falling-in-love-with-rowdy-hero happens only in the movies... not in real life!

Vinesh said...

@moonlight n magnolias: glad to hear such reassuring words from you. tells me there's hope in this world :-)

skullz said...

I like this post of urs ... very true about the recent trend in Tamil cinema... the comment about Genelia was hilarious and was something similiar to wat i said to one of my friends who incidentally likes such characters . !!
