HAPPY TO THANK

The new Vodafone ad (click here to download) featuring the girl with blunt features and the famous "Hutch Dog" was very sweet to watch the first few times. And I just love the "Every day I want to fly" song that plays in the background (does anyone have the link to download the entire song?)

Anyway, back to the point... after the first few times, I notice I feel sad when I watch the ad. I mean, the little dog does so much - finds missing socks, licks stamps, runs after school bus with forgotten school tie. Not a single frame shows the girl conveying gratitude or love. Not a hug, not a kiss, not even a pat or a smile!

Rathi tells me the point of the ad is that Vodafone's customer care is always there to help you, doesn't matter if you are an irate caller. My sister tells me it is implied the girl is grateful, just that the ad didn't show it. Come on!!

If I ever received customer care like that from anybody, let alone mobile service provider, the things I would do!!!!

Yeah, its a cute add :)
Though customer care usually sucks.

tekybala said...

mmmm.... that's another innovative add from vodafone....

there are friends for me who will call customer care and speak funny things like "thanni adika uruka nalla side dish ah illa chicken ah!"

they will respond patiently to "sir athellem kekathinaga... service la yethavithu problem na sollunga sir"

I have seen this ad, but only could remain the dog running behind the bus with tie. Let me check carefully next time I see this ad. The point rathi suggests is very pleasant :)

I could not connect to this add at all and I was wondering why.. now I know there is no connect between the girl and the dog... in the earlier ones the boy would look at the dog, so there was at least some eye contact that made up for lack of hugs etc ...

oh well said buddy!i love tht pug in the Ad.I wonder hw cud the little gurl resist cuddling it...i wud hav definitely given it a warm hug! :)

PrAcHi said...

Humm.. point hai boss.. They shud have shown girl hugging the dog or something like that! But may be i feel that the doggie is the BEST friend of that girl and she's taken him so much for granted that she's not bothered to show any kind of gratitude towords him! We also do like that na sometimes.. forget (or don't care) to SHOW our love to loved ones!!!
But the add is CUTE! Esp. sticking postal stamp part... :)

I think what Rathi says is true. In a country like ours Customer Care and the customer's responsibility towards Customer care is absent. I mean i don see customers saying "thank you" here at all!
the ad has just emphasised that, thats all!

Priya Iyer said...

the ad is defly cute. i loved it. yes, i too felt the lack of warmth on the part of the girl... dunno why...

Fathima said...

I too liked the ad very much! But in the young age as the girl, unless forced by parents, kids dont show gratitude or say "Thank you". They r so innocent to realise that some gratitude shud b shown back.

But coming to the ad, what Rathi said cud b true!

Fathima said...

BTW, I tagged u and I am waiting for ur post on it- one more reason being among the ppl I tagged u r the only family man(aka Married). So ur say on family wud b different!

Kausikram Krishnasayee said...

the dog runs with a fish net, but the girl was not catching fish.
the girl was sticking stamps, but the dog does not post.
the dog runs behind with the tie but never reaches the girl :)
thats vodafone for you ....never delivers completely.
waste of creative talent wish the dog was a mascot for something else and not vodafone :((
P.S. I just cant help being an irate customer ..they made me one.

**Rathi tells me the point of the ad is that Vodafone's customer care is always there to help you, doesn't matter if you are an irate caller

this is what xplains i guess... the ads.

the things u wud do ??? ;))

batao...nw that wud make for an interesting read!

@fahrrad: i agree it scores on the cuteness quotient.

@swetha: you mean this is like getting preity zinta to model for bsnl customer care?

@tekybala: indha romba over! :-)

Vinesh said...

@jeevan: paavam ille, i wonder if he manages to catch the bus!

@anonymous (paavai): that's right. this ad could have been cuter

@ria: yea - with a dog as cute as that!

Vinesh said...

@prachi: yes, humans do take relationships for granted, but i feel sad seeing such one sided relationships! the dog gives and gives... :-)

@black coffee: true. saying thank you isn't culture here at all, and i maintain... it is so sad to see! :-(

@priya iyer: she's busy in her own world

Vinesh said...

@fathima: maybe that's just indian kids, and that's sad. wonder where her parents are anyway. she seems to be living all by herself in that house.

will check out the tag...

@kausikram krishnasayee: hahahahahaha! so funneeee :-D spoken like a true irate caller.. haven't laughed so hard in a long time buddy! :'-D

@veens: since i doubt fantastic customer service will happen in this lifetime, i will not say it :-)

Yep, it's all about the CC branding. Although I wonder if they really stand true to it.

And no, she isn't married :)

On your comment @ my post

Thanks a lot for coming back and reading this again. That rarely happes to me ;) I feel honoured!

Awwww! U were treated badly??? Which heartless woman was that???

And then, should I ask u what the good things were ;)

Pointblank said...

@ ur post!

Yeah.. the girl doesn return the kindness. But I guess the girl's parents shelters the dog, so it pretty much evens out.

Ditto for customer care. The customers dont really care bout the executives , we call up just to complain. But then we pay for their connection!! Evened out again.

And sadly, we blast a particular executive who attends our call. But most of the time we wouldn't be his/her fault. They are just executives working with the company in qstn for peanuts.!

G U R U said...

Haven't seen the ad..but, the last sentence makes me darn curious to ask, what are the THINGS you'd do if you received a customer care like THAT :) ?

Sahefa said...

The ad wz interesting but never noticed what u said. Will sure do it next time

Serendipity said...

I think it's a great relationship. How nice to have things done for you and not feel obligated !! Gratitude is a people thing. Much better to be a dog.

wickedtaurus said...

Such a cute doggy! :) Unconditional, isnt that what puppy love is? :)

Suma said...

u're right they could have shown a geature in return.... a subtle message to the ones watching...

but the ad is so very cute...

Bubbles of FireWhiskey said...

call it a PETA instinct or whatever, but a gesture from the girl would have been nice. i really didnt like the part where the dog was running after her bus...
but overall the concept was good. just some of the finer details that get at me i guess...

PREETI said...

Haha! What a parallel train of thought! Trust me, iv seen the ad like a million times (considering that's one of the only ones they play during the IPL) and iv never looked at it tat way... I was alwayz like "awww the kid is sooo cute! and awww, the dog is even cuter!" yea, a gesture would've been nice, a smile would've been nice...but i guess the idea is to show unconditional love...And generally kids aren't all that thoughful isn't it?? The dog is her ONLY companion, as far as the ad goes, n it depicts just that...!

gunj said...

d ad is cute....n ur frendz(rathi) view is right!!

Red Phoenix said...

Even am searching for the song.. If u can find it, plz mail a copy to harih2s@gmail.com......
PS, the dog won't do so many things, if the girl ain't grateful... DAWGs are smart now a days.... :D

Rathi said...

Vine...please dont have expections from customer care. For every product and sale - customer service is like their formality to support their errors and concerns abt product.

nefariousoutlook said...

the ad is very nice ..and i believe that they are really trying to bring their focus on the post sales service making the whole experience pleasant..like ur friend rightly pointed out

Arun Sundar said...

Adhu oru vaai illaa jeevan. Else the dog would hv asked the girl some tongue-plucking questions.

Prats said...

I think its all about their attitude towards their customers and Rathi said it right...but how many of us actually show out our feelings ona daily basis....we take people around us for granted....
and thats what the lil pug gets here...for all the help...

An add meaning a great part of a comp-any.I think its a nice ad from Vodapone.

Shrinivas said...

I havent seen that ad..since I am in Malaysia for the past 18months..but as for as the previous Hutch ad..I would say that ad is the masterpiece though the idea had been captured from singapore ad..it does shows the activities of the faithful pet which is rep..(HUTCH/VODAPONE) not about the punjabi customer dancing, tamil customer eating in palm leaves, mumbaikar spitting the pan..and the kannandika...!!! do u want something like this vinesh??!!

Unfortunately, my friend, you and I are the chosen children on which the gods of Bad Customer Care choose to vent their wrath.

I have seen this ad a couple'o times... but was never able to feel the sadness this way.....I guess its probably because the dog is cuter than the girl!!

Customer Service of all the mobile service provider's SUCK.... their automated response units: press 1 for bullcrap, press 2 for dog shit...really piss me off...Oh i am getting carried away ... sorry

Nice post!!

I already watch this nice AD by Vodaphone.I like it.Its really a nice AD of helping hand.

It is a very good ad.

I doubt there is a full version of the song. The song I think was created for the ad. The music is partly 'lifted' though. Its from a song called Mama Call by Manu Chao.

wow...so many comments...

felt the same way about the girl's lack of gratitude for the dog.I disagree with a lot of poeple...children love their pets and never ever hesitate to show their love.

prob the ad's motive was to show, the other side of the story.

hey..are you bangalore based??...if yes..pls send me your i.d on

What I have always wondered is where are the girl's parents? Why does the dog wake her up, get her ready for school and do absolutely everything the parents are supposed to do. OK, I guess completely lost the point of the ad but the previous ad seems to have made more sense (the one with the boy)
