GETTING USED TO DISCOMFORT

Insane honking of vehicles behind me as I'm walking on the pavement, people spitting on my leg, utter contempt for the word 'queue', more electricity cuts in a day than the number of letters in the word 'electricity', sorry-faced half-naked women carrying fainted/dead babies tapping at my leg and pointing to their stomachs, shopkeepers as friendly as tight underwear, unbelievable bending of laws, wild rabid dogs chasing my tender loins in front of my house, rivers of urine on the main road beside walls of IT company offices - I am back in India!
Thank God for my loved ones who live here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On opening my inbox, I find about two hundred emails from friends inviting me to join Facebook. Now all these friends are already in my Orkut list. I fail to understand the need to replicate our contacts on another portal that requires a separate sign in and pretty much performs the same functions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a request for my fellow blogger friends that's been on my mind for a while now. Please see if you can allow your readers to choose if they want music playing when they are in your blog. Not only is the music loud and sudden when the page loads, but when multiple blogs are opened simultaneously, the effect of several songs playing at the same time is extremely jarring to the mind. Please consider my request; I'm sure other readers are facing this too.

You should be in facebook to know what it has. Its the applications in it that attracts people. Is it a hyperirritability phase you are in?

Prats said...

aaaaawww....India welcomes you!!!!
Close your minds eye to all the filth you see around...and dwell in its love and warm arms...you'll soon be missing it when you get back...

HAPPY NEW YEAR

@thinking aloud: there's a pause button, but often, the application is hidden away some corner of the page. sometimes (not sure if it was your blog though) i've searched for several minutes to find where the application was located in the page amongst other stuff in the sidebar!

@tys on ice: stepped on dog poo looking out for cow dung

@--xh--: hmm, facebook..

@mad: thanks buddy!

@anonymous: i do sound like that, don't i? but the thing is, i didn't have to try or pretend - that's how things are. i'm sorry you were disappointed by my true feeling. the dip in comfort level is just SO unsettling. don't wish to deny that.

@pointblank: not my own dog, but a street dog in front of my house! :-)

Vinesh said...

@shruti: i am in facebook, but dormant. i'm just unsettled because i'd gotten so used to the comforts of the US.

@prats: sigh...

I get nostalgic about my motherland even before I reach India, while am in the flight -- the desi at the window seat would want to pee. In an effort to get up and move out of his seat, he'd simply brush his ass on my face and pass through. No 'excuse me', no 'sorry'. I should consider myself lucky if he didn't fart then.
--------------
Be happy that you weren't invited to sign-up for a 'Twitter' account. That's much worse. Everytime you logon, it expects you to answer one simple question -- "What are you doing?" and when you punch in your answer(it has a limit of 140 chars!), it broadcasts that to the whole world via E-mail, SMS, blog, and what not! They call it 'tweets'. Imagine a technology that updates all your friends about what you're every minute :-D Doesn't that sound nasty :) ?
--------------
Regarding the auto-musical-blogs, feel free to use the 'mute' button lavishly! That's the most optimal solution *grin*

@jeevan: oh were you? i usually blindly accept invites on facebook because i haven't really used it.

@priya iyer: :-)

@tekybala: irukku. sonnen. :-)

Vinesh said...

@sandhya: thank you :-)

@sahefa: thanks for dropping by. will surely visit your blog.

@kausikram krishnasayee: ingeye oornavanaache :-)

@guru: hahaha - "brush his ass on your face" so totally true! :-)

thanks for warning me about twitter. now i can set my spam filter suitably.

mute button? :-( how about i use the play button lavishly :-)

@Hey you are seeing only negative side of India.There are lots of good things you have not mentioned.May be you will see later.
-I agree with yu regarding orkut.
-May be the song should come a little late with a warning.

Why do you project just the digusting part of India..I really wonder.

Hello.Can we blogroll each other?

hey! Welcome home..:) So now you know where you got your cast iron immunity compared to those delicate firangs!!:)

Welcome to India.

I agree with you on the music thing. Waste of bandwidth too.

Deepali said...

I know it's late but if you are around for long - ENJOY India while you can.

Vasu said...

India might not be such a comfortable place to live in. But as an INDIAN it is your duty to project it in a good light(as Aarthi said). Sure you can point out the flaws, but always be proud of our country. Before 5,000 years ago when most of the world was barbaric, we were recording 'Vedas'. India is the most spiritually advanced nation in the world.

uh.. couldn't help commenting on a comment. Vasu, what do you mean by saying 'it is your duty to project it in a good light' on a blog? This blog has been made by the owner to express what's on his mind!! Not to advertise the goodness and rich tradition of his country. Let him blog in peace!

I Love India but US is much better in more aspects. I dont think India will become like US even after 200 yrs :(

i don't understand this thing about "projecting". i'm telling it like it is. if anyone can deny the difference in the standard of living, feel free to place your argument here.

this discussion is not about indian heritage or india's greatness.
