DETROIT DIARY - 8

In The Detroit Institute of ArtsLife is impossible in this place without a car of your own. A colleague-friend was nice enough to spend the afternoon taking me around. Got to visit The Detroit Historical Museum and The Detroit Institute of Arts. Now, museums are places you can spend months on! Still, enjoyed the three hours awesomely!

Here is a painting on a wall (click picture to enlarge) inside the art museum that symbolises Detroit's industry bent of mind.

One thing that hit me really hard today, though, was how little I know about my own culture and city (be it Chennai or Bangalore). Here I am, in a new city, trying to look, feel, smell, taste real Detroit. But I won't be able to take someone who's new to Chennai sight-seeing though I've lived there for 23 years.

I want to go back and "visit" Bangalore. I want to go back and "visit" Chennai. With a companion (travelling sucks when you're alone!)

Nice pic, Anna. I too felt the same way when I had been to Singapore. I happened to browse through the tourism books in the nearby library.. and saw a looot of books on India. There were seperate big books for South India itself.. and i had never been to any of those places :(

U go out of India.. U tend to learn about their cultures..

We miss to learn them in an organised way in our cities... May be the Govt machinery has to show case the cities under better lights...
