DISCO FEVER AND RELATED ILLNESSES

Where's the potty tonight?
On the dance floor!

My second time to an adult party (the only other parties I've been to in my life have been children's birthday parties) My first outing was so bad that I needed tranquilisers. This one wasn't much different - alcohol flowing, flesh flaunting, coloured lights wearing out the elastic on optic nerves, aural membranes brutally pounded by dickchick-dickchick.

Being an office do, I could not pass up the event. Everyone was dancing to insane Hindi song remixes, and I was asked several times to go to the dance floor. What did I do - politely refused and moved to interesting pastures, namely the buffet table. As I sat there with a plate of garlic basmati rice, paneer, alu, and butter chicken, I thought to myself - why can't I get myself to go up and dance? The music was definitely a major turn-off! I would have so grooved if Raaja, Raajadhi Raajanindha Raaja was playing! But that wasn't the only reason.

I am awestruck when people say partying helps them unwind. Do people really have fun this way, with all the crowd and the noise? The make-up, the flashy clothes, the hairdos, the fake hugs, the sexual undertones/overtones - I realised that I'm a complete misfit in this whole party outfit.

I also realised that no song in this world is safe from being remixed. The music sounded like the same song was playing throughout the party! Just take a song, add a dickchick-dickchick - lo and behold... a remix! And lame-brained Dickchick Jockeys (DJs) get paid filthy for this!

Most Annoying Sound in the World Award: Goes to the opening noise of the song Deedar De from Dus. Right-click here and Save Target As... to download and torture yourself.

My appreciation for carnatic music and ghazals has scaled an all-time high!

Me first..I dont want to spoil the party but I think going to a party will help you forget some of your worries.I know the in thing is the remixes, You should just relax and go with the flow.I dont know how to dance but when the music comes on I am on the dance floor. You just do your thing.Parties are to have fun, as long as you stay within the limits .so next time dont be down and dont let the music drown you. step in and have fun.

well actually vinesh what u say is very true i too have the same trouble, im not a partying kinda' guy and besides im a very poor dancer - somehow i feel odd in parties! This is something maybe im not used to! But I need to agree with u fun is not something that u get only by dancing or partying! I'd love to spend time at a beachside with group of friends, or even anything else!

Interesting...!

I have to agree that dancing in parties does cool you down a lot. That has been my personal experience. I am a shy person too by nature..but Once I start dancing...I feel so light.!

Taking about DJ's, I was taking to a DJ the other day here. He is a desi-US hybrid. He told me how popular Indian music is with the DJs in the Bay area.!! There is even a guy who is nicknamed Punjabi-DJ !

I am going to ask him one day..If he can remix IR's 'Kaatril Varum geethame' !

Your last line is interesting.! Hey..and watch out for those Buttery items...!! Might add a few inches before the party ends to your waistline !

and if youre too worried about dancing. get drunk. then you wont care! seriously, as long as i have good company.. i dont care.

I hate such disco parties too... i hate the rock and jass and al these numberswhich some people consider "peppy"... melodies and carnatic music are my thing.. same pinch.. and icant stand the intoxicating smell of alcohol.. so parties are jus not my thing...

Vinesh, me joins your gang..seriously, I landed up in a pub when I was working in Bombay and realised I just don't belong to the place..!and most remixes, are brainless attempts at being Yo!

Vinesh good observation.
Thats how people/young folks want it ,shout at the top of your voice over a music that is 2 loud.
And end up next day with headche and sour throat. ;)
For remix you should Ilamai Idho from Sakala kala vallavan. Thats some super dooper disco song.

i too agree with ur thoughts.partying out at night is just a show-off and mere waste of time and money.rather y not party at home in a decent manner.if u know "kai jaalam" u can become one dj.these western rocks are really rocks to our ears.nothing can beat illayarajs music.but the culture is changing.

I have sat through these disco nights too...disgusted. People I like and respect...losing control over themselves and playin fools, or maybe it is the real them. Under the influence...kiddishly promiscuous. I do spot a graceful groover here and there...but very few. I think dance floors are the testing stones for ppl.
On the other hand, maybe I am the misfit.
Btw, congrats on being a popular blogger. Deserved.

LOL, of course nothing comes even close to classical music. And it depends why you go to a party. I mean, some people go there to drink it up, some go there to "pick-up", some go there for the music and some for the crazy dancing. And you have to admit, if you are on that dance floor for even an hour, you are burning a lot of calories coz its an awesome workout.
