INDIAN FOOTBALL

As I write this, Brazil is down by a goal to France in the FIFA World Cup 2006 quarterfinals. 72 minutes are up, and I can't watch anymore. There is a strange feeling in the stomach, possibly nervousness. I have switched off the TV (this is what I did when Japan took a 1-0 lead against Brazil in the group match. Brazil scored four times after that) and hoping this works! :-(

If this is the case with Brazil, I wonder what my condition will be if India ever qualifies for the World Cup. Click here for history of India in World Cup qualifiers.

I wonder why India doesn't do well in football! People talk about lack of infrastructure, encouragement, fan following, but what is the real reason? Definitely not lack of fan following - Click here for information on football viewership in India. We've also had the most talented players - Baichung Bhutia, Chima Okerie, IM Vijayan..

...................

Oh well, just checked to see the score: Fra: 1, Bra:0 - END OF PLAY! :-( Now why do I care who wins the World Cup! In 2010, I will root for India - right from the qualifiers!

Man..what can I say..France was solid today! I am sure 99% of the people who Bet on the World cup will be out since Arg and Braz are gone.

My only prayer - Italy must be elimiated. They don't deserve to be their for their fake that won game for them against Australia.!

Bad streak of blood running through the World Cup...

I felt really sad after Argentina lost and thought that Brazil would carry things forward... Very sad.

Having said that, France really did play well.

Me was never an Argentina fan. But yea. I guess most of us in India are Argentina or Brazil supporters..

Wonder when we'll get a chance to be India supporters

I watched that particular match and to be honest in that particular match Brazil played without passion, right from the word go they were playing to lose the match.

Wasn't Chima Okerie from Nigeria? I thought he was an international player in India's league.....
And as for being India's fans... I think we should learn from the Scots...
the ad on TV that goes... "2006 World Cup... Once again Scotland fails to qualify.... Once again 5000 Scotland fans will be at the World cup..... Cheering for Scotland anyways...."
