NUMBER ONE WEEKLY

kumudhamanandha vikatankungumam

If the clash between SunTV and JayaTV is not funny enough, here is how the leading weekly thamizh magazines fight amongst themselves. Sample these front cover taglines:

Kumudham: Number One thamizh vaara idhazh
Anandha Vikatan: Thamizh vaara idhazhgaLil Number One

But the best HAS to come from the SunTV/Maran group!

Kungumam: Indhiya aLavil saadhanai padaikkum thamizhin uNmayaana number one vaara idhazh (!!!)

I'm sure if Jaya group has their own weekly magazine, they will come up with "ulaga aLavil saadhanai padaikkum.." :-D

For those who don't understand thamizh:
Kumudham: Number One Tamil Weekly!
Anandha Vikatan: Number One amongst Tamil Weeklies!
Kungumam: The REAL Number One Tamil Weekly Creating Records at the National Level!!!

Of the three...
AV still has some quality in it...overall nadai & presentation nalla irukkum...

I can read kumudam in about 10 mins and there will be nothing to gain...they try maximum to introduce sexy photos every where...

Kungumam ...never even read if i get chance...

@ramo: i guess you havent seen recent editions of AV, a gud competetor to Kumudum except Vairamuthu, Thamizh Aruvi Maniyan's articles... even Madan's section has gone beyond silly and much like Arasu answers in Kumudam, Sujatha is shifting towards crap...

machi.. have you read TheeraNadhi from Kumudum groups, thatz one surprise for all us...

ps: Theeviravaathigalin pidiyil thamizhagam, is the headlines in kumudum and see the cover picture.. :-))) , that portraits the seriousness of the issue.....

What jeevan told is correct. Even our hero was angry with his friend a few months back that he didn't tell our hero in shop itself that our hero forgot to get the free sambar packets. Our hero likes "Chinnathirai" hihihi... which has full contents for what he pay Rs.5

I fully agree with Ramo's views and also with Senthil's. My fav. used to AV but looks like even AV is deteriorating on quality stuff. A bit of yellow journalism would be fine but not a major part of the magazine showcasing only that!

Dude,
I think u miss lots in Jaya TV...Haven't u seen the ad for "Dr. Namadhu MGR"...Its just advertising at its worst... :))

"Neengal maNam illadha indha Kaagidha pookalai virumbuveergala? Neengal poiyaana seidhigalai virumbuveergala alladhu nadunilayaana(!!!!!) seidhigalai virumbuveergala?" :-))

And may be Nirmala Periyasaamy shud have been made to read it to make some deafening impact on our sinful years...

And Kumudham vs Ananda Vikatan is running for many years...Adhukkuthaan naan rendaiyum vaangi padikkardhu :))

@Div: Hehe, it's in your face Div :-)

@Ramo: I guess it all depends on what each one looks for in a magazine, buddy :-)

@Kalai: Padichi dhaan doctor aaga mudiyale.. acting, politics.. idhule erangura idea-vum ille.. vera eppdi dhaan doctor pattam vaangradhu? :-)

@Rose: Dai dai dai.. adangu dee..
I agree that I used to buy Kungumam only for shampoo packet, puliyodharai mix etc..

And yes, now I have stopped buying all those books. I only buy VaNNaththirai. Full of cine news and sexy pictures. Atleast they don't pretend to be a family magazine and insert sexy pictures in between to boost sales :-) I like their honesty, haha!

@Sneha: These guys will always be there to make us laugh :-)

@Sai Thilak: Buddy, what the contents of the magazine are is a different issue :-) But their front cover taglines are really funny :-)

@Filtered Sambhar: Well, the website of Kumudam has a link to its "sales" giving "authentic information" about its Number One status. Ananda Vikatan sometime back published a two page story about how it is the Number One in sales (during the 3-D glasses time). And Kungumam as always boasts of being the REAL number one. Dunno where to get authentic information from...

@Random Access: NoLLa Kanna NoLLa! :-)

@Pallavi: Hey, I provided a translation just for the benefit of those who don't understand thamizh :-)

@Jayan: Good to see you here again too buddy :-)

@Ravi: Speaking of yellow journalism, just like Kungumam, probably we'll see a magazine called ManjaL :-) Or do we have one already :)

@Srinivasan: Hahahahaha! That was too good! The name Doctor Namadhu MGR itself is too funny Hahahha :-D

@Priya: Thalai-kke indha nelamai-nna vaalunga enge poradhu? :-( Yaaradhu? Culprit yaaru? Oo-nnu sollu, avana/avaLa vettiduvom :-)

@Jeevan: Haha, buddy you are right. Now they are topping everything with Thamizh Murasu... giving Reynolds pen free for Rs. 2 newspaper :-)

@Yaathreegan: TheeviravaadhigaLin pidigaLil thamizhagam? Haha, Jothika in Surya's hands...LOLOL :-D

"For those who don't understand thamizh:", what about "For those who don't understand English:", translate your blog in all languages (atlest in languages which Microsoft supports).

Sometimes I wish numbers did not exist - one of those occassions is when everything is ranked relatively, knowing fully well that nothing is absolute and everything is dynamic.

In the numbers game the quality of contents in the magazine is hitting rock bottom. Offlate there is so much of filmi stuff in vikatan and I am used to reading vikatan for short stories, jokes (madan's rettai vaal rengudu types) and kuru naaval etc.

It is interesting how these kind of stuff catches your eye :)-

Funny though.!! wonder what Kalki says ( one of the magazines that I respect a little).

Sounds to me like the NBA,NFL,Baseball WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP games here.!!!

Vinesh said...

@Ranganathan St: Haha, neenga solradha unga icon-odu poruththi paatha perfect-a irukku! :-)

@Ayshu: I haven't noticed, but now that you have brought it to my notice :-)

@Edaku Modaku Rose: I will try da :-)

Vinesh said...

@Paavai: Numbers game is relative, good point! Preferences can never be generalized, and the only way magazines can be ranked is based on the sales, and we have no neutral judge for that.

@Vanathi: Thx Vanathi :-)

@M: Nachunnu irukku = packed with a punch? :-)

@Narayanan Venkitu: I haven't seen it for myself, but I hope Kalki hasn't jumped into the bandwagon too. I have noticed, though, that even they are publishing film star pics on their cover, and carrying more film-based articles than before.
