NIGHTINGALE IN THE WINGS

Saindhavi
It has been a very long time since I played a new thamizh film song in an endless Winamp loop. What a brilliant composition! And what a melodious voice!

The song is "ManjaL Mugamey" from the film ABCD.The first time I heard this song, the voice sounded so strangely familiar! When I looked on the cassette cover, I was overjoyed to see the name Saindhavi. I had the pleasure of knowing this chirpy little girl during my days as a chorus singer. She and I had been part of a chorus group for a bhajan album two years ago.

Her talent has radiated on several shows like Ragamalika (Jaya TV), and Are you Ready (Star Vijay). Also found out that she has sung "Randakka Randakka" from Anniyan along with Shreya Ghoshal (but I could not spot her voice from that song). This little girl is still in school!

I really wish that she makes it BIG as a singer. A newcomer with perfect thamizh diction is a boon to thamizh music! I hope she (and a music fan like me) is blessed with more wonderful compositions.

Listen to her voice in:
ManjaL Mugamey (Film: ABCD)
Poomaalayo PonvaeLayo (Film: UnarchigaL)
(Her voice sounds best only on a good quality CD recording of these songs, not the low bitrate links above)

She is a nice singer...Her voice appears only in one line in the "Randakka" song..Thanks to the efforts Harris Jeyaraj is taking to make duet songs like chorus these days :))

I read an article in Kumdam or Aanandha Vikatan 2 months back abt Saindhavi, where she was introduced as the singer of "Rendakka Rendakka..." song. Good entry.
BTW, updated my blog & catching up on others.

@Maha: Glad you liked the song too :-)

@Ayshu: Thanks Ayshu, but it's a long shot :-)

@Srinivasan: Yea, it seems to be the "trend" these days :-)

Vinesh said...

@Preethi: Oh I missed that programme! Look forward to your return to blogging! :-)

@Fathima: Yep, it's been a while since the audio of ABCD has been released, and I don't think this song is making any waves at all! :-( I don't understand it sometimes :-(

i never knew about her this much until I read your post. I loved both the songs, but should agree the tune actually spoilt the song and in certain places overshadowed her voice too. As you said, she has a really good voice. donno vinesh, authentic pronounciations are pretty much overlooked, romanised tamizh'la or kuthu style'la paadina thaan makkalukku pidichirukku. this would kind of answer your question 'Why this song does'nt make waves?'.

@Ranganathan St: Glad you liked both songs. I took some time to get used to both songs, especially ManjaL Mugamae, because of the loud thavil introduction. But as I have mentioned in the post, the audio quality of the online link is very poor. CD Quality is much better. And I love both the tunes also. I especially congratulate D.Imman for composing such a wonderful song with perfect pronunciation by the singer.

You can actually make out that so much importance has been given to each word (ex: in charanam when she goes "kaayam patta...", you can feel the pain almost!) I'm not sure if that was the composer's or the singer's input.

ada nee vera, i listened to that song in a 192 kbps, still those thavil sounds are a bit too unbearable :( Imman megaserial style'la pottutaaru.
