I thought Deepavali is the festival of light.
I wonder how it turned into a festival of sound!

The heart patient who lives in my apartments is leaping up and down rhythmically with the ten-thousand-walah going off outside the building. I hope his bed doesn't break.

I notice an annoying increase in the number of commercials and common people pronouncing "DeepavaLi" [தீபாவளி] as "Deepa vali" [தீபாவலி]. Kaadhu vali each time I hear this.

I am home for the holidays.
I wish everyone a very Happy DeepavaLi! :-)

Update on 06 November, 2005:
Thanks to Bhargav V for e-mailing that "deepavali" is the correct pronunciation and not "deepavaLi" as the word derives from Sanskrit "deepa + aavali". But I guess I've gotten used to the thamizh form (it is spelled deepavaLi).

Good to spot a tamizhan who gives importance to zha, La and la pronunciation. See, I tell people I am not finicky!hi-5! And may our breed grow.:-)

Its amazing...there was once a time when bursting fire crackers was de rigueurfor me.

Now the very sounds I loved and chaos I loved have become a pain!

Guess thats what they call growing up!
