ARACHA MAAVU... UKKAANDHA EDATHULA NOVU...

Dhanush and Priyamani
Erotic movie stills that do not indicate what you carry back from the film. This is what Adhu Oru Kanaakkaalam (AOKK) is all about. AOKK has an absolutely astounding plot. Astounding because try as hard as you might, you cannot find anything new in it.

Dhanush has an elaborate scene involving a ravishing Tejasree. However, when Dhanush "wakes up" suddenly, the audience realises it was only a dream. This was as childish as a primary school creative writing assignment, which usually goes on about trip to the sun, moon, stars etc, and then ends with "My mother woke me up and I realised it was a dream". I have seen porn movies with better excuses leading to coital acts.

As scenes are increasingly explicit these days, picturisation of the expression of physical affection offers a lot to the lustful eye. Unfortunately, the film maker has concentrated more on the biology of the lead pair rather than the chemistry.

The film's climax evoked something from deep within me, and caused a lump in my throat. I soon realised it was my phlegm, and I spat it with full force when "A Film by Balu Mahendra" appeared on the screen.

In a scene, Dhanush is arrested and Priyamani runs behind the police jeep for a while, then falls down, hurts herself, expecting to evoke the viewers' sympathy. I think this is what they meant when they said this movie would be another Moonraam Pirai. Another trying fifteen minute scene describes the funeral rituals of Dhanush's screen mom with intricate detail. I could only see the corpse of a talented director there.

I am a fan of Balu Mahendra-Ilayaraja movies, hence my choice of this movie amongst the DeepavaLi releases. But I feel very badly let down by both of them.

P.S: I know the whole state is crazy about Asin, but in my opinion, Priyamani is the most good looking actress in thamizh cinema today. Miles ahead of her nearest competitor. Her misfortune that she gets horrible films from the best of directors (Bharathiraja & Balu Mahendra).

Nice review Vinesh. In all tamil movie when the Police arrest the Hero, the heroien will run behind the Jeep upto the street end and fall. (they dint change it now).

On seeing the hoardings in the city i thought so abt the movie...
The one near Vadapalani signal had Dhanush and Tejashree in their close proximity !
Poor dhanush, he shines well ONLY in his home production !

Vinesh said...

@Jeevan: Haha buddy! You're right. Ivanunga thirundhave maattaanga :-)

@Priya: Try watching "Perusu". It is a movie made by many sirisus. Haha! :-)

@Ayshu: Enge shine pannraano. I never found him good in any of the movies I watched of his. I think Bharathiraja's son Manoj, Sathyaraj's son Sibiraj, and Junior Sivaji Dushyanth are better than Dhanush! :-(

just now watched this movie... but before that i had watched couple of very crap movies

1) Chanakyan
2) Majaa
3) Kundaka Mandaka

i was juz wondering how dare are these directors and actors who are ready to make such films, pitty the Producers

ivlo paarthutu kadila irukum bodhu thaan i had watched this AOKK, so it didnt suck much...

eventhough the 2 imp scenes (1st dhanush and priya getting so intimate in just 3rd day, 2nd police letting him go away)... were so cinematic, but overall, it was a bit watchable when compared to the other craps..

i wish Cherans Dhavamai Dhavamirundhu releases soon :-)

when are our directors going to understand that vadivelu's loud noise isnt comedy, a item song in the movie is going to bring crowd, a very clever hero is going to attract mass... blah ..blah..blah. lots of bloggers have blogged a lot abt this, so lemme stop here...

What i meant abt his SHINE thing is...Atleast in his home prodn movies like "Thuluvadho Ilamai" and "Kaadhal Konden", inspite of the vulgarity in them, padam odichu. But other movies like sullan and AOKK, i dont think even it will get the money back for its producers !
Pity their state :-(
But Manoj and Junior Shivaji laam better nu soladheenga,,,2 days bak i was happened to see the movie TajMahal....My GOODNESS, how worse it is...My doubt is, when these ppl take the movie and watch its first copy, avangaluke theriyaadha tht the movie wont go for even 10 days nu ?

Let us wait and see if 'Priya Mani' get her best out of her in Ameer's 'Paruthi Veeran'... I too observed that she expresses well in couple of scenes, which I had seen

PS: Wondering did I miss ne thing 'interesting' by not seeing 'THE' scene by Dhanush & Priyamani? ;-)

@Rp: Buddy there are some interesting "scenes" in the movie, with Priyamani and also the whole Tejasri episode.. but even sex must fit into the movie, otherwise it sticks out like a sore thumb :-(

@Filtered Sambhar: Koil katta premises ready paNNiyaachaa? :-)

@Vatsan: AOKK is a breath of air, but "fresh"-nnu mattum please sollaadheenga :-(

Sometimes I feel even punch dialogue movies or silly comedies make you laugh mindlessly for some time, but in movies like AOKK, things are so dry you can't even laugh (barring one wisecrack here and there) or cry (nothing creates an impact in your mind)...

Vinesh said...

@Div: I too don't watch too many movies cos of lack of time. I made time to watch AOKK, but sadly :-(

@Senthil/Yaathreegan: Vadivelu's comedy is either too good or too stale. But namma Thalaivar Kounder, enrume Thalaivar-dhaan! Vaazhga!! :-)

@Jagan: Happy vayasukku vandha day! :-p

@Random Access: Sometimes I feel the reason I like 70s movies more is because I saw them without any expectation or idea about the plot. When I even read a review somewhere and watch a film, I know when, what is going to happen. So if ever there is a movie I want to watch badly (like Shankar's or Balu Mahendra's or Balachander's), I make sure I don't get any news about it until I watch it myself :-)

Btw, which movie did you choose? :-)

Ayshu said...
