AN ORANGE BY ANY OTHER NAME

Orange is the colour I relate to when I'm happy. Orange is the colour that soothes me when I'm sad. I see orange in sunrise. I see orange in sunset. There is a zing about orange that gives my heart a little hug, my senses a little squeeze, and my thoughts a little tang!

I have a room back home that's painted light orange ('cos we couldn't afford the bright Asian paints orange!), shirts that have atleast a streak of orange, and everyday items that have orange somewhere in them! Love orange fruit and orange juice!
I'm probably the only guy in the world who eats "Orange Delight" icecream in Milky Way! I have been a faithful subscriber of Hutch for the past 3 years because of their "orange" image :-)

Here are some of the names I considered for this blog prior to "Orange Juice...":

- A Photogenic Mind
- Butt Seriously...
- Snapshots from Within
- Chicken Fried Rice

Then I decided that if my blog should reflect me, it should wear orange, both in design and in name. Then came:

- Orange World
- Orange Mania
- Orange Spectrum

And suddenly my eyes fell upon 'Chicken Soup for the Soul'. I've liked some stories from that book series, but only when it did not get sickeningly sweet! I felt those books were almost fairy tales sometimes. And then I thought up "Orange Juice for the Soul". Just the kind of drink when you're down to cheer you up, sweet yet tangy, and also the best drink to party!

And it's great for vegetarians and non-alcoholics too! :-)

P.S: If you are crazy about orange too, do check out Merino's blog I would call her blog a celebration of orange! :-)

Mmmm... interesting read again Vinesh! So you must be liking Kanakaambaram poo, papaya, kesari (sweet), jaangiri, masoori paruppu too ;-)

Well, on the 'technical' front, just curious to know if you have the details. As you know, the colour orange originated from the colour of the fruit orange. Saw in a pattimandram and in a couple of jokes in movies that the word 'Orange' actually originated from Tamizh. The logic behind arriving at this name goes like this : When you cut open an orange, (in most cases) you have 6 pulp chunks (solai) on one side and 5 on the other. Hence the name - aaru(6) anju(5). But I am not able to ascertain if this is true!

@Vikram: Moral of the Story - Always stock orange juice in your fridge :-)

@Me: Oh, ok. What's your favourite colour?

@Somu: I liked that one too. But when I was starting out, I didn't want to offend anybody, and also didn't want my blog listed in the "wrong" directories, hehe :-)

@Anoop: No buddy, your wishes are right on time :-)

Vinesh said...

@Anoop; Thanks for your wishes :-)

@Vidya: Does that to me too :-) DO you have any special reason? :-)
