SERVICE TAXED

Late pizza delivery
The weakening tactics of the Pizza outlets in town finally overpowered me today, as I succumbed after two weeks of resisting Pizza flyers that come everyday with the newspaper! I am immensely fond of pizza, but because a medium-sized one costs between Rs.100-Rs.150, it is a luxury for me to dream of eating it more than once a month.

I ordered my favourite Chicken Curry Pizza and a Spicy Minced Lamb special. Pizzadeli has a policy of delivery within 45 minutes of placing order, or you pay Rs.0. There have been a few times in the past when the delivery time has exceeded 45 minutes, and I never demanded a free pizza because I would sympathise with the delivery boy. Poor fellow, he may be fined or lose a paycheck because of me. I never wanted to bear that feeling of guilt.

But today, I got my pizza after 65 minutes, and it wasn't even raining. For the first time, I put my melodramatically inclined conscience aside, and demanded my free pizza. And got it! Oh yes, I enjoyed it very much.

If it's all about business and everyone's rupee is important to them, so is mine to me. You talk deal, you get deal. Wow, I'm beginning to sound strange to myself now...

:-) i got free pizzas two times in a row...the thing is that my house, when I was in back in chennai was in ashok nagar...in one of those avenues with a bizillion streets and usually most of the people living there dont know much about the street numbers. So the third time I was confident to get an other free pizza and ordered quite a lot...you know with extra cheese, garlic bread, pepsi,salad...but the guy showed up in 30 minutes and I lost two months' pocket money.

Pizzaa is always fun. Ontime delivery was pioneered by Domino's Pizzaa. Why miss a "freebie"... the delivery guy will never get penalized 'cos they are times, when they leave the restaurant.

Interesting..!

I appreciate you vinesh..I don't do it either...if the food is a little late and if it is free...of if they give a freebie..I usually say its ok..But then what you did now...after the 65 minutes wait..is very appropriate indeed.

By the way, is this in Chennai...Pardon me...for asking..its been a while for me.!

in-fact i do the same thing with my conscience...i dont mind giving 5 bucks more than usual to the auto guys...i feel that 5 bucks may not make a difference to me..but it might make a difference to them....and end up a fool..this conscience thingy can be real strange!!!

@Venky: I love the taste of Domino's, but they're very expensive :-(

@Narayanan Venkitu: Yup, this is in Chennai.
PIZZADELI - 52131414 (Free delivery in limited areas)

It's affordable and the topping tastes good, but on the whole, several rungs lower than Pizza Corner or Pizza Hut or Domino's. I wouldn't recommend it for "Real Pizza" lovers.

@Monu: Our wavelengths seem to match :-) I haggle with auto drivers too, but at the back of the mind is the feeling..."In branded stores, we pay thousands without bargaining, but we fight with pookkara ladies, auto fellows, servant maids etc"

@Ioiio: I thought you were in the US? Ange-llaam auto irukka?? :-)

@Vasanthi: You're the only one to say something about the title. Thanks :-)

new profile photo? u r looking smart!

BTW those free pizza if delivery time > 45 minutes are genuine promos by Pizza companies. what i don't like is the way the delivery boys drive. it seems they have been trained to drive fast in difficult road conditions. i wonder whether they will manage to keep up their promise during rainy season.

i don't think the delivery boy will be taken to task for delay in delivery of the pizza. he can explain the reason for the delay and get away with it. anyway he doesn't draw any performance linked bonuses.

Vinesh said...

@Kaps: Thanks for the compliment :-)

Thanks for making me feel better about the free pizza.. Yea, I've seen the way those delivery guys zip across vehicles on the roads

Vinesh said...

@praveen: What's your order, and address? I'll have Saniyan deliver the pizza for you :-) Good to see you in my blog buddy!

@jayan: you shouldn't look at the complex details man :-( hehe!

hahah good for you... free pizza !! I for one am not so fond of pizzas.. can survive without them but sometimes I do have the urge to have them :)

I used to think of getting a free pizza by sitting in some cornor of the city where accessibilty is so difficult and wait for the 45 minutes to elapse...Tht was then..A few days ago my bro told me that he had to sit behind the Pizza delivery guy and take him to a particular apartment as that guy begged by bro to help or he would have to pay from his pocket. SO I understood that these guys have to pay from their pockets and felt so small within me for having wanted a free pizza!!! But you chunked on the pizza...cool...Happens only once in a while and you GOT IT!! :)
