LIGHT OF LIFE

I wonder why candles are blown out when people celebrate birthdays. The only reason I can think of, is, to maybe signify that a certain number of years have been completed in a person's life (?)

Switching channels, I saw a scene from the movie Unnai Charanadaindhaen. The birthday girl is about to blow the candles out, when a guy in the party makes an interesting suggestion - why not light an oil lamp instead? Now that set me thinking!

Isn't giving birth to a new flame of light more appropriate than extinguishing existing ones? After all, a new flicker of light does denote hope, and as it burns brighter, the lamp symbolises the person's bright future. What can be a more positive thought on a day everyone's happy for the chosen one! A lamp's flame will die, too. But that will be as natural as death.

Sometimes, you get the nicest ideas from sources you least expect!

i agree with ur views, but i still like cake cutting, candle blowing.... life is not full of happiness and colour always and occasions like birthdays give u an opportunity and reason to celebrate...
